Waters Releases April Hearing Schedule for House Financial Services Committee

According to Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), Chairwoman of the House Committee on Financial Services (HFSC), the committee is currently slated to hold seven hearings over the month of April, covering a range of topics.

The committee’s legislative hearing schedule will begin next Wednesday, April 14 at 10:00 AM, with the full committee convening for a virtual hearing entitled “Building Back Better: Examining the Need for Investments in America’s Housing and Financial Infrastructure.”

The following day, April 15, two subcommittees will hold hearings; the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions will meet for “Banking Innovation or Regulatory Evasion? Exploring Trends in Financial Institution Charters” at 10:00 AM, and the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets will convene for “The End of LIBOR: Transitioning to an Alternative Interest Rate Calculation for Mortgages, Student Loans, Business Borrowing, and Other Financial Products” at 2:00 PM.

The full Committee will meet again on April 20 at 10:00 AM for a hybrid markup, and again on April 27 at 12:00 PM for a virtual hearing called “Member Day Hearing: Committee on Financial Services.”

Two more subcommittees will hold hearings to round out the committee’s activities for the month. The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will convene for a virtual hearing on April 28 entitled “Examining the Role of Municipal Bond Markets in Advancing—and Undermining—Economic, Racial and Social Justice.” Lastly, the Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion will meet for a virtual hearing entitled, “Closing the Racial and Gender Wealth Gap Through Compensation Equity” on April 29 at 12:00 PM.

All hearing times are indicated for the Eastern Time Zone. For virtual hearings, all HFSC and Subcommittee Members and witnesses participate remotely. While further details on any of the hearings are not yet available, the most current committee schedule is available here.
