This week, NAFSA announced three new strategic hires to help advance the organization’s mission of advocating for Tribal sovereignty, promoting responsible financial services, and providing better economic opportunity in Indian country for the benefit of Tribal communities. To achieve these goals, NAFSA has brought on Justin Fisk to serve as the Director of Policy and Research, Olivia Hoff to serve as Marketing Manager, and Teresa Guzik as Communications Manager.

Justin Fisk comes to NAFSA from consumer advocacy organization Public Citizen, where he was a senior researcher focused on economic and international trade policy. Prior to that role, he was the Policy Associate of Federal and International Affairs at the Council of State Governments, a nonpartisan organization serving state governments. He also held full-time internships at a variety of organizations, including Sandler, Travis and Rosenberg; the U.S. Department of Commerce; the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He obtained a Master’s Degree in International Affairs with a concentration in economic development from George Washington University as well as a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia.

As NAFSA’s Director of Policy and Research, he will conduct research on a broad range of Native American, economic, and financial policy topics concerning Tribal sovereignty, alternative financial services, financial literacy, market trends, consumer habits, and economic development.

NAFSA also has brought on Olivia Hoff, an enrolled member of the Northern Cherokee Nation, to serve as its new Marketing Manager. Hoff previously worked as a digital strategist at a marketing and website development agency, as well as several public relations firms. She brings a wealth of experience working with a wide range of companies, audiences, and industries, spanning e-commerce and federal contractors to nonprofits and associations. She specializes in digital campaigns that involve email, social media, search engine optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), webinars, content creation and website development, and also has experience in event coordination, advertising, and media relations.

As NAFSA’s Marketing Manager, she will be working to build strong and clear communications, develop campaigns that spread awareness of NAFSA’s mission, and promote the work that is being done to advance Tribal sovereignty and financial independence for Native American populations across the United States.

Finally, NAFSA has filled the Communications Manager role with Teresa Guzik, who comes from ServiceSource, Inc., a nonprofit organization with the mission of serving people with disabilities and building more inclusive communities. As NAFSA’s communications manager, she will create compelling content and materials across multiple platforms to build a clear and streamlined message, in addition to developing and managing marketing and advertising campaigns to promote NAFSA’s mission.
