Meetings include the White House, CFPB, and Congressional Members
This week, Native American Financial Services Association (NAFSA) members came together to continue the dialog for the tribal online lending industry meeting with White House officials, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and various Congressional offices.
NAFSA’s attendance at meetings with officials represent part of a larger commitment by the organization to foster growth and partnership of evolving financial service solutions supplied by Indian nations. Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians Chairman, Jim Williams Jr., provided officials insight on his tribe’s hands-on approach to self-regulation, establishing and advocating a best practices lending model stressing the importance of underwriting.
“We are continuing to do our part to establish a working relationship with federal officials regarding our industry,” noted Gary Davis, Executive Director of NAFSA. “As we collaborate and listen to one another, NAFSA can show the White House, the CFPB and Congress that NAFSA members provide much-needed financial solutions for the millions of Americans who are unbanked and underbanked while operating in a highly compliant environment.”
